Frequently Asked Questions

First visit to St. James? Here are some answers to frequently asked questions (click to reveal each answer):

Where are you located?

For directions to the church, please click here.

Where do I park?

St. James has a large parking lot, surrounding the church, with plenty of parking.

Where do I go when I get there?

The main entrance to the Sanctuary is inside the church, and can be accessed through any of our doors. From the main entrance (which faces Elm St), the Sanctuary will be just to your left once you are inside.

For those with limited mobility, there is a ramp in the rear and on the south side of the church.

There are greeters and ushers at the doors who are glad to answer any questions you may have once you arrive. There is also a visitors' welcome table in the Narthex (the area just outside the sanctuary) that has information about St. James as well as a free St. James mug for you to take home.

What if I have nursery-aged children?

St. James always seeks to provide members and visitors with safe, secure, and dependable childcare. Get more information about childcare for infants and toddlers.

Are children allowed in worship?

Absolutely; children learn to worship by being in worship! In the Narthex, you may find a bulletin designed especially for young children, which follows the scripture passages used for that day's sermon. In addition, Worship Activity Bags are available in the Narthex (the area just outside the Sanctuary) for children to use during the service. These bags are designed to assist children during the service so they can participate in worship. Please return bags to the Narthex after the service.

Children, age 3 through second grade, are invited to come forward for the Children’s Sermon during worship, and to then depart for Children’s Worship Time. All children will return during the offering.

Parents are also free to keep their children with them throughout the service, regardless of their age.

Are there rules about Communion?

You don’t have to be Presbyterian to share in the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper (also known as communion or the Eucharist); all who proclaim Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are welcome at the table! We share this sacramental meal on the first Sunday of every month as well as on other special occasions throughout the year.

Are non-Presbyterians welcome?

Absolutely! Most of St. James’ members were something other than Presbyterian at some point in their lives. While membership at St. James is open to all who affirm faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, anyone may join us for worship, or for any of our other opportunities for learning and serving together, regardless of their faith, questions, belief, or disbelief.
