The Backpack Ministry at St. James provides healthy snacks on the weekend, throughout the school year, for children at Glenpool Elementary in first through third grade. The identified children are those who are at risk of going without food on the weekends. This program began at St. James in January 2008 and currently serves 60 children.
Day Center for the Homeless
St. James has the privilege of preparing and serving the evening meal at the Tulsa Day Center for the homeless every 5th Sunday.
Worship and Bingo at Grace Living Center
St. James Deacons and Members lead worship at Grace Living Center, at 9:15 a.m., on the Fourth Sunday of each month. This short service is a wonderful time with the residents and deeply meaningful for all. We also play host bingo, on Sunday afternoons, once a quarter.
- St. James is active in the Tulsa Metropolitan Area through offerings of time, talent and finances. With our member’s help, we support a significant number of ministries in their efforts to care for those in need.

St. James Presbyterian Church strives to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God as we live out our call to be Christ’s disciples in the community and the world. We would love for you to join us as we worship, serve, sing, eat, and play together as the body of Christ.
Children and Youth Ministries
We believe that one of the gifts of a faith community is the ability to walk together on a journey of faith. Through Christian education we seek to walk the roads of this journey together, that we might honestly wrestle with our doubts, grow in our faith, be nurtured in community, and be sent out to live as Christ’s disciples in the world.
Children in Worship
St. James greatly values our children and loves to have children in worship. We believe that the best way for children to learn how to worship, is by worshipping with their parents and the rest of the faith community. We welcome children of all ages in the sanctuary throughout the worship service.
While children are always welcome, we also want the children, and their parents, to have the best experience possible. To that end, we invite members and guests to allow our paid nursery workers, and member volunteers, to care for their young children in our infant and toddler nurseries. We truly believe that the nurture and care of our children is not just their parent’s responsibility, but the church’s responsibility, and so we welcome opportunities to provide for the children of our church.
- For children age 4 through 1st grade, St. James offers a Worship Enrichment class each Sunday, a special time for children to come together to sing songs, play games, and continue to learn about the Bible and God’s immense love for them, during the worship service. Children are invited to attend worship with their parents, then depart for Worship Enrichment following the Children’s Sermon. Children will return during the offering.
- St. James also offers special Children’s Bulletins and Worship Bags, located in the hallway behind the Sanctuary, which are full of fun activities for children to do, while sitting in the worship service.
- If you would like a bag, or have any questions, please find an Usher before the service and we would be more than happy to assist you.
St. James’ youth group meets every Sunday evening, during the school year, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to provide a time for all students, grades six through twelve, to come together to walk together as disciples of Christ.
Evening activities include dinner, along with a variety of opportunities, including Bible study, games, art, service, worship, and other fun and engaging events.
Music has always held a special role in the life of the church; it has the power to elevate our thinking, transcend language, and allow us to connect to God in a unique way. The music ministry at St. James strives to give glory to God, to enhance worship, to provide an avenue for service, and to be a tool for sharing God’s love with the community..
Musical selections at St. James range from vibrant “traditional” music to more modern hymns and anthems.
St. James is committed to creating and maintaining musical opportunities for all ages and all are invited to make a joyful noise unto the Lord.
St. James’ Adult Choir rehearses on Wednesday Evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 pm in the Sanctuary, and assists in leading worship Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m., September through May.
